1 Gunn, Bill. (Script) STOP.
NY GUNNELL, INC. 1969 First Edition.
Featured archive of "First" & "Second" draft Scripts for the never released, yet groundbreaking & influential film "Stop." First Draft SCRIPT. (As noted by one of the principal actors working on the film) The number 9 inked at head of title page. Untitled. Very good in plain dark grey bradbound studio covers. Contents fine. (Short tears & traces of shelfwear to edges of covers) The 2nd Script (so noted in ink on the title page, with the additional number #126 as well. This script has the printed title of "Mandala" on the front cover, and the address of the Darlington Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, site of the company's base while shooting. Close to near fine in mustard-colored bradbound studio covers. Several ink notations present in text. (Light shelfwear to covers) Owing to differences between writer/director Bill Gunn and his producers, Warner Bros., the film , though completed, was never released. Today it is available for screenings and has developed a faithful cult following. As recently as April 4, 2010 it was screened as part of the BAMcinematek series in Brooklyn, NY. This film was the first effort of esteemed cinematographer Owen Roizman, who's next project was "The French Connection." Bill Gunn had written the screenplay for the much applauded "The Landlord" and "The Angel Levine" and in 1973 directed "Ganga & Hess" to critical acclaim. A remarkable cult film in it's scarce original scripted format. (BC)
