Author Name Wills, Garry Title LEAD TIME. A JOURNALIST'S EDUCATION. Binding Hardcover Jacket Condition Dust Jacket Included Edition First Edition. Publisher NY DOUBLEDAY. 1983 Inscription Signed by Author(s) Seller ID 29583 INSCRIBED by Esquire magazine's editor in chief, Harold Hayes, over the entire front endpaper to no one person, but in an expository fashion to explain the beginning of his relationship with a young writer named Garry Wills. "The early years at Esquire with Garry. He was sent me (sic) by Bill Buckley about whom he had written a sketch. He had no reportorial skills. I put him, as experiment, with Ovid Demaris, who was all reporter (and no writer). Ovid had just found Francis Gary Powers for me (nobody else could). They worked together most successfully (and improbably) through their earliest pieces. H.H." Fine in a near fine dj. (Spine on dj. lightly discolored) Harold Hayes discovered Garry Wills, among numerous other talented young journalists, during his remarkable tenure at Esquire.
